I've been reading posts about when the next version of Magic Workstation is supposed to be out and Christmas has come and gone. The forum links to the beta are now broken. Is this software still on a time schedule for release or has it been permenantly delayed? I'm really looking into purchasing the software but will wait if there is any chance a new version will be out soon. |

The next version of the software has been supposed to come out for something like the last 3 years. Here's some advice. Enjoy MWS as it is with no expectations for the future of it. As long as you look at it with this attitude you won't be dissapointed.
I was the same way about 2 years ago. Really excited about some new features I heard about coming in MWS 1.0 like drafting, and multiplayer. Everytime someone asked when it would be outit seemed like it was answers like "by Christmas" "by the end of the year" "this summer" And here it is 2 years later and still no new version. I finally stopped looking forward to what MWS could be, and am content with what it is. My life is better for it.
Just my .02 cents, and we all know what that's worth! |

It already is a superb piece of software - sure, it could be better, but it gets the job done, and it's still years ahead of it's competitors *looks at lackey and OCTGN*. |

I agree 100%. I'm just saying base your purchasing decision on what the software is today, not any future hopes for what it could be. |

You obviously haven't used these programs..
lackey and octgn both have multiplayer support and drafting
also lackey has a way to view games real time.
MWS is good and very very popular true, but if there isn't going to be a new release within a month orso, MWS wil be overshadowed by new software really really soon.
My prediction is that in less than a year MWS wil have the same status apprentice has now, that is, there will be a lot of people using it, refusing to look at other software or just plain unknowing of the existence of better software. There will be more and more alternatives, lackey, octgn are just the tip of a the iceberg. As soon as online leagues like magic-league.com make the switch from MWS to other software, it will be the beginning of the end.
ps. Even though I am the creator of one of those alternative programs, I do hope for a new MWS release soon also, because the more choice there is out there, the more pressure WOTC will feel and maybe one day lower prices for MODO cards |

Well it's kinda like this.
I am a professional IT Trainer...in fact, I train the trainers. I develop my own software and have had a Magic database program running through the back of my mind for about 3 years. I have so many cards (well over 100,000, but if I include the pool that my sister and I have built together at her place it would be more like 300,000+ total). Somewhere along the line my organization of these cards has fallen to pieces. I'm looking at selling the vast majority of them (including 9 complete sets) and need something that can handle a)inventorying my collection, b) differentiating the cards that I plan on selling and those I play with, and c) develop new decks with the cards I actually own and plan to play with and view stratagies and get all the cool deck diagnostic features and calculations like some programs have.
So for me its kinda like this, the investment I make, should I choose an already established program, I want to make sure that it's a growing investment because I still buy about $400 in cards per month. If this program isn't still growing, evolving and showing at least some sort of development by the creators (which it appears they aren't, I've seen no official statements on development or releases in the forums that are very recently dated), as a collector, trader and tournament player (OK, so I haven't actually competed for about 3 years), I may take a pass on it and start developing my own in my spare time.
I guess I just don't want to catalog 300k in cards to find out that the company has closed shop by the end of this year or something similiar. If I wanted that I'd just use MtGLIE. |

I don't see how a lack of development would stop you from using MWS to catalog your collection, unless there is some cataloging feature that it currently lacks. The only new thing you would need would be updates to the database, and that can be easily handled by a third party (as GoblinHero does currently). _________________ Get the Magic game pack, read the installation guide, and read the MWSPlay guide, all right here.

After using the program for the better part of a week I've come to agree with this board that the program is quite AWESOME. I'm really suprised at how few bugs there are in the program. I'm still not too keen on paying for something that might be dead because there are more advanced features in other programs I really liked. For example, The Complete Magic Database (CMD) has a much better and deck analyzer, which isn't really essential but just a cool feature that I was attracted too. Too bad the rest of that program was terrible...
I really wish I would have this program before because it basically looks and feels alot like what I wanted to program anyway. I also wish the pricing updates were a little better handled because doing the standard updated, though simple, resulted in alot of flaws. I want to thank the guy that migrates the price list and distributes corrected versions. |

I've found this program to be slightly better at inventory cataloging and totally free. It's faster once you get the hang of it, has a powerful search engine, and I like that you can collapse cards into the latest version so you can easily see which of your ancient cards are still useable in modern formats. Imports/exports to MWS quite effortlessly too. The only thing I actually use MWS for anymore is well, playing online. |

Thanks for the heads up. I'm checking that one out as well.
Does anyone know why when I pull up the statistics on my deck in MWS my Stormbinds only show up as 1? I have three and in order to get the analyzer to detect 3 instances I had to read the Stormbinds one by one from each available set. |
