Hello, new users. This is a thread for intensive FAQs and general information. The information enclosed in here will contain most of the information you will need to use MWS efficiently. *Note to posters in this thread: Please only post FAQ related posts! No idle banter in here! *

This thread is open and users are encouraged to contribute anything they feel is needed here. Ok, so let's start us off. Most of these questions are answered by the fine people over at www.o-gaming.com for their faq's are pretty basic and to the point. Feel free to visit them for your online gaming needs.

Q.: How do I get pictures into MWS?

A: This is the most common request in the forums and chatrooms for MWS. This is from O-Gaming's faq posting for this:

You can download pics at http://www.mwsdata.com

Joe Ramone's Site ( http://joeramone.sites.uol.com.br/index.htm )

Alternate Site: Cary Fleming's Site ( http://www.magicsuitcase.org/pictures )

Download the pics into a directory you create called "/pics" in the MWS directory (This will by default be "c:\Program Files\Magic Workstation\pics"). Each set should go into its own subdirectory (ie. ON for Onslaught and so on).

Next you need to go to Tools -> Preferences -> Image View, in your MWS. Then add a directory and choose your /pics directory.

This should give you pictures. Make sure you test things out before downloading all the pictures.

Alternatively, you can now use the new Magic Assistant for your MWS picture needs. To download MWS assistant, go to MWSDATA.COM: http://www.mwsdata.com

Verify following points:

- pics have the SAME name as card names (ex.: "Counterpell" -> "Counterspell.jpg")

- pics must be stored in a dir as C:\Program Files\MWS\pics\EXT where EXT = card extension in MWS program. Ex.: C:\Program Files\MWS\pics\OD for ODissey cards, C:\Program Files\MWS\pics\ON for ONslaught cards, etc...

- You must set the base dir where pics are stored in MWS under Tools > Preferences > Illustrations. Add the dir where you added EXTENSIONS dirs. Ex.: If you have the following file tree:
C:\Program Files\MWS\pics\OD
C:\Program Files\MWS\pics\ON
C:\Program Files\MWS\pics\MR
etc...
You should set C:\Program Files\MWS\pics as you base illustration directory. DO NOT add C:\Program Files\MWS\pics\ON, C:\Program Files\MWS\pics\OD, or C:\Program Files\MWS\pics\MR. It would not work.

Hope have been cleared enough....

Q: I am behind a firewall! How can I use MWS on the internet?

Code:
MWShost Walkthrough

MWShost is to be used for when two players cannot connect through normal means (ie. when both are firewalled). A third party (not one of the players) then runs MWShost and both players call them.

EXAMPLE: Firewalled Frank and Routered Randy want to play. They are both Firewalled. Hosting Henry runs MWShost. Both Frank and Randy then call hoster Henry. The MWShost interface pops up and the first player in should create a game titled (Frank vs Randy). Then the other player will join that game. That is all there is to it!

That's it. Easy enough. The official MWSHost server is MWSPLAY.NET. Simply open your connection box (Control + I from MWSLibrary module), and click on the "Call" Tab, and type in: mwsplay.net. If this doesn't work, use the IP address: 217.106.235.130. Then, have your opponent call the same IP, and now you two can play! Firewall problems are no more!

Q: How do I get a Registration code without paying?

A: You CANNOT use another persons registration code! Be aware that if you use someone else's code to use Magic Workstation, this is a violation of the Shareware license you agreed to when downloading the software.
Identical codes cannot connect to eachother, and MWS Registration codes are kept track of when they are used. If you wish to obtain a registration code, pay for the software!

Q: How do I get the original MTG frames, Mana symbols and set icons?

A: MWS works with themes to draw cards so you need to download a theme and install it. Unzip the theme zip file in the THEMES folder inside the MWS root folder, and open MWS. Go to Preferences menu (or hit F10), hit INTERFACE then the theme file should be listed in the GRAPHIC THEME box. Select it and click OK.

Your cards are now using the frames, Mana symbols and set icons.
(of course you can download theme files from http://joeramone.sites.uol.com.br )

Q: Can I use 2 or more themes at the same time?

Not right now, if you choose the new 8E style theme, all cards will use this theme, if you choose a foil theme, all cards will use the foil frames...
