Hello. This question will be a "D'Oh didn't you know that" for some pros but for me who never played a tournament game and who do not live in the USA it's a normal (I want to know more and learn something" question :
How does building a limited deck work?? - As far as I know you get a Starter and two boosters so you have 105 cards available and you have to build a "minimum 40 cards deck".
BUT: As far as I know in the boosters are NO lands and in the Starter are 30 lands 6 of every basic type...
Are you forced to play with three colors?? - 3 x 6 lands sounds good to me but when you only have 6 of any color you can not play with 12 lands only... hmmmmmmm?!? _________________ If you can read this, you can read!! |

You get 2 boosters and 1 tourney pack (75 cards +30 basic land)
You then make a deck out of those 75 cards, and hand in your table's lands (sorted by type) into the tourney co-ordinator. You then go and get your required land from the 'land table'.
At least, thats how it works here... _________________ Have you ever noticed how some flavor text has no relevance whatsoever to the card it's on? |

Ah so the lands in the pack are ignored and you can fetch yourself up to 30 lands in ANY combination for the match from another source.
That sounds more logical!! _________________ If you can read this, you can read!! |

No... you can get unlimited Land... So next time u go, if ur short of land, get 100 of each and shove it in your deck butt hen you'll be mana flooded and lose... and they usually make you give it back, especially if you take 500 land _________________ Have you ever noticed how some flavor text has no relevance whatsoever to the card it's on? |

most prerels ive been to have a 5 land turn in rule, you only get to change out 5 of your lands. otherwise, if its a tourney where you register the deck, you hand in all the lands and when you get a deck back, you simply go ask for what lands you want and they give it to you but it must be written down in your decklist.. so youre stuck with what you pick and unfortunately cant side out a whole color cause you dont get the land.
Also the other issue is the land-handlers dont give away the land because they need it all for the drafters who start with no land.. _________________ HGML Patch Programmer, Webmaster, and Set Coordinator

Hmmmm I start to understand. But I thought in every starter deck (and you get 1 starter and 2 booster) are exact 30 lands and exact 6 of every basic type. So you ALWAYS will have the wrong lands because when you build a 40 cards minimum deck (for this I consider it 40 cards exactly) and you want to go with two colors 12 lands are not enough.
So as Planeswlk mentioned you can change 5 lands... that would help with 17 lands it would be nice to play. But when you want to go with 50 cards and let's say 24 lands 12 mountains and 12 swamps and in the starter you got 6 of every one basic type...

hmm i played 50+ card deck in Mirr prerel and had enuff land, i had 19 land cause i got a few artifact lands and had some artifact mana available. so in Mirrodin, you dont need to worry abt this too much but in essence, a 40 card dek only needs 17 land anyway. |
