PostPosted: Thu Aug 14, 2003 10:45 pm    Post subject: The future of my resources site.

What I have:

300 MB space used more 100 MB of free space (a full set of cropp images , themes, base... etc)
30~50 users a day downloading some cropp sets, some themes, masterbase (300MBx30usersx30days=270GB trafic/MO)
The site is Always online.
I don't update the site as often as I wish coz my plan just cover HTML (no ASP or PHP suport) no FTP service so I need to edit the pages in NOTEPD and upload the files by browser, what is VERY boring and takes alot of time.
For this service I spend some money but not too much so I don't care, I can handle and keep the things running this way.

What i want:

(i will stay with the same host)
Update my accont to suport 1 or 2 BG
Upload full scan card images in Hi-res quality like the cropps in the site
Use a PHP or ASP design in the site (a friend of me has already made it)
Provind a Deck database where you can upload and download decks
Update the site by FTP, so colaborators can send files direct to the site and the site will be updated more times and have the hotest files every day.
This way my trafic will jump to ... (let me think....)......
300MBx30usersx30days=270GB trafic/MO
Full set are about (more) 500 MB .... Themes... Decks.... Sets... Masterbases...
at least 700GB/MO or mabye 1TB/MO.

With the increase of trafic and host space It will cost me alot more money, and i can't keep it by myself.

So here is the question:

Should I stay with the site as it is and keep it by myself. OR

Should I update the site and put a donation banner on it (paypal) ?????

PS: just post/vote if you realy cares.

One Terabyte a month?? Crazyness. I'm more than happy to offer my website/domain that can link to files (and host a small subset). I've already coded a deck input and review system - I can easily add a way for people to download the decks too.

All my solution would do is reduce your level of effort in maintaining a site. It doesn't really change storage or bandwidth for the images (I can host decks and themes easily).

Of course no one really visits my site at the moment, but I've never advertised it or placed content on it more than what I (and my handful of friends) are interested in.

Joe.. for the html, just go get a free html editor helper (like CuteHTML by the makers of CuteFTP), it makes it tons easier by color coding the lines and giving you popup code snippets (like visual basic).

As for the site.. put a paypal donate on it now, and if you get donations, then upgrade.. if you get none, stick with what you got.

Hmmmm...

Perhaps it would be a good idea for those of us with web space to spare (such as Tim and I) to share resources like a kind of mini webring. You could host the majority of stuff on your site while we could mirror some of the card pics or simply divide them between us to share the download burden and keep the admin costs down. This could be done transparently - users do not need to know they are downloading from a different location, simply have some of the links point outside your site.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, I've decided to host type2 pics. So I've already posted those on my website. Thanks Joe and Dreamcrawler.

Great Tin Lowe...

I don't care alot about the trafic forpics that I already have in my site.

The greatest question is where to host Full scans in High-Res most of then are 12~13 MB for 300 cards sets or 6~7 for 150 cards Sets ...

These zips are about 480 MB and I just have 100 MB free.

I can send these Hi-res full scans to someone (by mail or upload to some FTP) if someone wish to host these files.

The idea of a mini webring is nice but my server don't alow mirroring but all of you are wellcome to try to avoid this annoing protection just let me know that you are mirroring the file and how you do it coz there's a lot of ppls trying to mirror my files and they don't know how.
